What “Dealer Confirmed” means

What it does not mean

• —A rating, a review score, or a recommendation.
• —A statement that the dealer is in good standing with the ATF.
• —A background check, an inspection, or any verification of the business.
• —A guarantee that the fee, hours or capabilities shown are current.
• —Something a dealer can buy. It cannot be purchased at any price.

Why we do not say “verified”

Other directories badge listings with some variation on the word “verified”, sometimes alongside the ATF’s name. Wording like that tells a customer somebody checked something — usually without saying who checked it, what they checked, or when. We deliberately do not use any of it.

What we can honestly report is provenance: whether a fact came from the ATF’s published record, or from the dealer. So that is what the label reports, and the two kinds of fact stay visibly separate on every listing.

How a listing becomes confirmed

1. The dealer proves they receive mail at the premises address on their ATF record, or confirms the licence details already on file.
2. They save at least one piece of information about their own business.
3. The marker appears, alongside the date they last updated the listing.

The date matters as much as the marker. A confirmation from two years ago is a weaker signal than one from last month, so we show it rather than hiding it behind a badge.

What a customer should still do

Call before you ship. Fees change, shops close for the week, and a dealer who happily accepted transfers last year may have stopped. A confirmed listing tells you what the dealer said and when they said it — it does not replace the phone call.

ATF-sourced details on every listing come from the published licensee file, currently the edition of September 27, 2026. Licence status can change between publications; confirm directly with the dealer before a transfer.
