Why did I get a postcard from FFLSearch?

Because your FFL already has a page on FFLSearch. We built it from the public ATF Federal Firearms Licensee list, and we mailed you so you could take control of it. Claiming is free.

  • Free to claim — permanently.
  • No credit card, now or later, to hold your listing.
  • Core information stays free. We never charge for a fact a customer needs.
  • We are not affiliated with the ATF or any government agency.

Why is my business listed at all?

The ATF publishes a list of every active federal firearms licensee every month. It is a public record. FFLSearch is a directory built from that list, so every currently licensed FFL in the United States has a page here — around 77,500 of them. You did not sign up, and nothing was taken from you.

Where did the information come from?

Your business name, address, license type and FFL number come from the ATF listing. The data on this site is currently from the ATF publication of September 27, 2026. Nothing else about your business is published unless you add it yourself.

We keep ATF-sourced facts and dealer-supplied facts visibly separate on your page, so a customer can always tell which is which.

Why did you mail me?

Because a page about your business that you have never seen is not much use to you, and because the details customers actually ask about — what you charge for a transfer, whether you accept transfers from online retailers, your hours — are not in any public record. Only you have them.

The postcard carries a code tied to your specific listing, sent to the premises address on your ATF record. That is what lets us hand you control of the page without asking you to prove your identity to us in some more intrusive way.

Is claiming free? Do I have to buy anything?

Claiming is free and there is nothing to buy. We do not ask for a credit card, we do not start a trial, and there is no charge waiting at the end of the process.

We may later offer paid options for extra prominence or presentation. If we do, they will never gate a fact a customer needs. Your transfer fee, hours, address, phone number and capabilities stay free to publish and free to read. That rule is the product, not a promotion.

What is “Dealer Confirmed”?

Once you claim your listing and save your information, your page shows a Dealer Confirmed marker. It means exactly one thing:

Information on this profile has been confirmed or updated by the dealer.

It is not a rating, an endorsement, a background check, or any statement about your regulatory standing. We do not use the word “verified” anywhere on this site, because it implies a check we have not performed and are not qualified to perform. More on what Dealer Confirmed means.

What can I update?

Your standard transfer fee and any notes about it; whether you accept transfers from online retailers; whether you handle NFA items and private-party transfers; your hours; the phone number and website you want customers to use; your DBA or trading name if it differs from the name on your licence; the services you offer; and a short description of your business.

You cannot change the ATF-published name, address or licence details through us — those come from the federal record. If something in the ATF data is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will look at it, but the authoritative fix is with the ATF.

Do I have to publish my transfer fee?

No. Every field is optional. A field you leave blank shows as “Not provided”, which is neutral — it does not say you charge nothing and it does not say you refuse transfers.

We ask for the fee first because it is the single thing customers most often want and most rarely find. But it is your decision, and you can claim your listing, correct your hours and leave the fee blank if you prefer.

Who operates FFLSearch?

FFLSearch is operated by Human+AI Ventures LLC. It is a private company. We are a directory: we do not sell firearms, we do not broker transfers, and we are not a party to anything you do with a customer.

Are you affiliated with the ATF?

No. FFLSearch is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or any other government agency.

We use the ATF’s published licensee list because it is a public record. That is the whole of the relationship. Nothing you do on FFLSearch affects your licence, and nothing here is a regulatory requirement.

Will the free information stay free?

Yes. The commitment is specific rather than vague: a fact a customer needs in order to choose an FFL is never placed behind a payment — not yours, and not theirs. If we ever sell anything, it will be prominence and presentation, never access to the truth about your business.

How do I get help, or tell you to remove something?

Use the support form. It reaches a person. We will not promise a response time on this page that we cannot keep, so: we read everything, and we prioritise anything that says a listing is factually wrong.

Ready? Claiming takes a couple of minutes and the fee field is the only one worth filling in on a busy day.
